Laughing off digital side channels

The HD Digital Radio Alliance is touting a new programming strategy to utilize the expanded program streams available to digital radio stations. It is suggesting revival of the comedy format. The Alliance notes how FM radio helped jumpstart the careers of George Carlin, Steve Martin and Cheech & Chong back in the day – and it proposes to use HD technology to provide an outlet for contemporary acts. Early adopters include: KRSK-HD2 (Portland/Entercom); WBZW-HD2 (Pittsburgh/CBS Radio); WEND-HD2 (Charlotte-Gastonia/Clear Channel); WSNA- HD2 (Memphis/Entercom); and KKLI-HD2 (Syracuse/Clear Channel).
