Laughs abound at NAB Show Radio Luncheon

Ron Chapman, Phil Hendrie and Jeff Haley all took the stage at the Radio Luncheon Tuesday at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. Fortunately, Haley didn’t try to tell any jokes.

The RAB President was making a pitch for the Radio Show September 29 through October 1 in Washington, DC – the first such show to be jointly produced by the NAB and the RAB. He noted that it will now cover the entire spectrum of the radio industry. “It’s also gonna save us some money – one trip costs less than two.”

Dallas radio legend Ron Chapman brought along quite an entourage as he was inducted into the NAB Hall of Fame – his high school speech teacher, his wife and daughter and even Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his wife showed up (which was a surprise to Chapman) to witness the event.

“I love the people of radio. It’s good to be among you. We’re all so weird,” said Chapman in his brief acceptance speech.

Even for a room full of radio people, it was amazing to watch as Talk Radio Networks syndicated host Phil Hendrie created several of his audio characters live on stage. He switched voices constantly in a fast-paced off-the-wall conversation involving several men and women – all of whom are actually Hendrie. And none of it was recorded as the characters talked and argued with each other and Hendrie.
