‘Law & Order: SVU’ leads NBC to #1 Wednesday 10pm slot

This marks the fourth consecutive week “Law & Order: SVU” has been #1 or tied for #1 in the 10 p.m. hour in adults 18-49. 


At 8 p.m., “Mercy” averaged a 1.3/4 in adults 18-49 and 5.4 million viewers overall.  “Mercy” increased its women 18-49 rating by 7 percent from the show’s first half-hour to its second (to a 1.4 rating from a 1.3), its adult 25-54 rating by 12 percent (1.9 vs. 1.7) and its women 25-54 rating by 13 percent (2.6 vs. 2.3).

At 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1.5/4 in adults 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) locked up week-to-week increases in this time period of 25 percent in 18-49 (1.5 vs. 1.2) and 14 percent in total viewers (5.7 million vs. 5.1 million).  These are “Law & Order: SVU’s” best encore results in the time period this season.  From its first half-hour to its second, this week’s “SVU” rebroadcast increased its 18-49 rating by 23 percent (to a 1.6 from a 1.3) and its overall viewership by 19 percent or more than 1.0 million persons (6.3 million vs. 5.2 million).

At 10 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (3.3/9 in adults 18-49, 10.4 million viewers overall) captured the series’ highest 18-49 rating this season to dominate the time period over CBS’s “CSI: NY” encore and ABC’s original “Ugly Betty.”  “Law & Order: SVU” won the hour decisively in all key demos and matched or beat the combined ABC-CBS result in the time period in adults, men and women 18-34 and men 18-49.  Last night’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” was up 57 percent versus NBC’s 2.1 average in this slot for the traditional 2008-09 season (“live plus same day”).  In total viewers, “SVU” is up 48% percent or 3.4 million persons versus NBC’s 7.032 million average in the hour during the traditional ’08-09 season.  This is NBC’s best 18-49 result in the slot with regular scripted programming since April 23, 2008 (“Law & Order”).
