Lawmakers Ask About Uncollected FCC Fines

House-of-RepresentativesWe’ve known for years that the majority of the FCC’s fines against pirate broadcasters go uncollected.


The commission is dependent on the Justice Department getting the U.S. Marshals involved to bust pirates and seize equipment and then the DOJ deciding if it has the resources to spend the time collecting the fine, as opposed to focusing efforts on higher-dollar collections from other crimes.

Now, some lawmakers are asking the agency questions about other, higher-dollar uncollected penalties.
