Just in time for CES 2018 in Las Vegas, LG Electronics has unveiled what it is boasting to be a “superior, clearer and smarter lineup of premium audio products that promises to change the way people think about home speakers.”

New for 2018 is Meridian Audio’s advanced high performance audio technology “to deliver more natural and warm sound. But, perhaps the biggest takeaway is the South Korean company’s first smart speaker to go to market—the ThinQ.

LG will be using CES 2018 to officially unveil its entry into the premium smart AI audio product market. The LG ThinQ Speaker comes with Google Assistant built in, and LG says it teamed up with Google “to ensure that the LG ThinQ Speaker delivers all the conveniences which comes with having a digital assistant at your side.”

The device includes Meridian Audio technology. “LG ThinQ Speaker’s High Resolution Audio is compatible with high quality lossless files, giving it the ability to faithfully recreate sounds that were originally recorded in the studio,” LG boasts.

The announcement from LG puts the company ahead of its South Korean rival, Samsung, in the race to challenge both Amazon and Google in the smart speaker space.
