Little Rock closing afoot

Nexstar Broadcasting is expecting to have the keys to Equity Media/River City Broadcasting outlet KWBF-TV in Little Rock AR within the end of the month, by 1/31/09. The station, acquired for $4M, will then get a facelift, flipping calls to KARZ. That will allow the MNT affiliate’s identity to dovetail with Nexstar’s main Little Rock facility, NBC KARK-TV.

Nextar honcho Perry Sook said the move was part of an ongoing strategy. “We are also excited that our acquisition of KARZ-TV extends Nexstar’s long-term strategy of identifying accretive acquisitions and prudently expanding our portfolio by operating multiple stations in concentrated geographic areas. In this regard, Little Rock will become the 19th market in which Nexstar owns, operates, programs or provides services to more than one station in its 29 markets, and KARZ-TV will represent the 51st television station which the Company owns or for which it provides sales, programming and other services.”
