Local program vet gets Citadel OKC FM cast-off

KINB-FM The Spy 105.3 was the 6th FM wheel in the Citadel Broadcasting Oklahoma City portolio and found itself under the care and feeding of Elliot Evers and the Last Bastion Station Trust. It was LMA’d to local radio programmer Brian Howard last year, and now Howard is filing to buy it.

Howard’s Spymedia LLC will pay $2M cash for the station in a deal filed almost a year after his LMA of the Alternative outlet kicked off on 11/24/09.

Howard has spend over 20 years working in various capacities in the Oklahoma City market, for three different companies, including Clear Channel.

This is one deal in which the phrase “thanks, Mom” is entirely appropriate. According to a document attached to the application, the Rita K. Howard Trust is backing the purchase. Rita, who is Brian’s mother, had nothing to do with negotiating the deal and will have nothing to do with the business or operation of the station going forward.

Citadel’s remaining stations in the market include two AMs: WKY-AM and WWLS-AM; and five FMs: KKAT-FM, KKWD-FM, KQOB-FM, KYIS-FM & WWLS-FM.

Much of what goes into a deal goes into the contract, and knowing what kinds of things should go into the contract can help you make a better deal. RBR-TVBR has just the book for you: a guide to deal-craft that will pay for itself.
