LPFM On The Brink Asked FCC Head For Deadline Extension

1

Over the last two weeks, the fate of a small-town Ohio low-powered FM radio station has generated national attention, primarily as it is being scrutinized for the apparent listing of a deceased woman as a board member in filings submitted to the FCC.

This sparked a license revocation order presently underway at the Commission — a hearing that saw the station owner fail to comply with Enforcement Bureau requests it needed to produce. The inaction led the Administrative Law Judge to place a final deadline of June 20 on the licensee to comply, or its license will be stripped.

At the time, the LPFM’s Program Director and most public figure associated with the mini-station was contacted by RBR+TVBR. His response was one of surprise; he had no idea any of the actions were transpiring. On June 8, the PD, Scott Spears, offered his version of what went wrong in a RBR+TVBR letter to the editor.

Now, the FCC Enforcement Bureau has responded, as the FCC heard from the individual associated with WWGH-LPFM‘s business affairs — Shawn Craft. Craft wanted an extension of time, beyond June 20. The Enforcement Bureau bluntly opposed to the request, which was full of procedural errors. Among them — sending the request directly to FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.
