Macy’s launches media review

Macy’s has issued a RFP for media agencies, kicking off a review. MEC is the incumbent. A Macy’s spokeswoman told Ad Age the move is not triggered by dissatisfaction with MEC, but just normal procedure.

It would be a hit for MEC if Macy’s went elsewhere. The media agency lost a number of large accounts in 2011, including Novartis, Pizza Hut and Toys ‘R Us. MEC also recently picked up the Marriott business.

MEC picked up the Macy’s business from Starcom in 2007. Late last year, MEC named Marla Kaplowitz its new CEO in North America, replacing Lee Doyle. Doyle now serves as president-client development at WPP sibling Mindshare.

JWT has served as the department store’s creative AOR since 2006 and will remain in that role.

Joanne Davis Consulting is supporting the review.
