Make way for Sir Jerry, Knight of Philadelphia

Legendary WBEB-FM honcho Jerry Lee, the contrarian owner who has been doing battle throughout radio’s consolidation era with one of the last free-standing large market solo FM operations in the nation, has now officially been knighted. There are no US dignitaries authorized to confer such an honor on a US citizen, but for King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, it’s no problem. Lee is being honored for helping to establish the Stockholm Prize in Criminology. “I am truly humbled by this once-in-a-lifetime honor,” said Lee. “The vision and commitment of the Swedish government, the University of Stockholm and the entire criminology community in establishing the Stockholm Prize was unbelievable. I share this distinction with all of them and pledge to honor the title by continuing to work tirelessly to advance the field of criminology.”

RBR/TVBR observation: This should make it even more difficult to compete with Sir Jerry. And if some rules are broken in attempting to do so, Sir Jerry will have access to the best crime-busting minds on the planet, courtesy of the Stockholm Prize, not to mention support from his many fellow knights.
