CBS announced that Michael Gross is joining “The Young and the Restless” beginning with the episode airing Friday, August 15th. Gross will play “Lowell Baldwin,” now known as “River,” the long-lost father of “Michael Baldwin” (Christian LeBlanc).  River shows up in an unexpected place in a very unusual role, CBS said.

Gross is best known for his long-running role on the hit NBC primetime series “Family Ties” (1982-89) as “Steven Keaton,” the liberal (GM of a public TV station) father of young conservative “Alex P. Keaton” (Michael J. Fox). He’s since appeared in numerous other TV and movie roles.

The Young and the Restless is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company, in association with Sony Pictures Television.
