NBC 10 WSLS-TV, a Media General station serving the Roanoke-Lynchburg DMA, is about to see its retransmission consent contract with Cox Communications expire, and as yet the two parties have not agreed on a new contract. The station is warning its viewers that it may soon disappear from the Cox cable lineup.

In addition to alerting Cox subscribers to the situation, it has also pointed out that it will the station will still be available on satellite MVPDs and can also be tuned in for free over the air.
It has posted the following communication to viewers on its website:

Attention Cox Communications customers in Virginia!
Cox will drop WSLS 10 on June 1st.
That means you’ll miss some of your favorite programs including WSLS 10 local news, TODAY, NBC’s primetime (like America’s Got Talent), the Stanley Cup games and the 2012 Olympics in London.
We regret that Cox Communications viewers will not be able to watch WSLS 10 as they usually do, but there are other cable and satellite providers, and WSLS 10 is free over the air.
