The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group has selected the four mentees that will participate in its 2018 Mildred Carter Mentoring Program.

Now in its 17th year, the MIW Group’s signature mentoring program matches up-and-coming women in the radio industry with female professionals recognized as leaders in all aspects of Radio.

The 2018 class is comprised of the following individuals:

  • Candy Cintron, Asst. PD, WLZL-FM “El Zol 107.9” in Washington, D.C., an Entercom Tropical station
  • Amanda Guest, Founder/GM, BFF.fm, Best Frequencies Inc., of San Francisco
  • Jillene Khan, afternoon host/Social Media Director, WMGN-FM “Magic 98” in Madison, Wisc., a Midwest Family Broadcasting AC.
  • Kimberly Sonneborn, VP/Digital Operations, Beasley Media Group/Charlotte

Beasley Media Group is the lead sponsor of this year’s program.

“Each year, we receive an abundance of applications for this coveted program and are encouraged by the caliber of female colleagues working in the radio industry,” said Lindsay Cerajewski, chair of the 2018 MIW Group Mentoring Committee and Entercom/Chicago GSM. “We welcome our Class of 2018 and can hardly wait to open a few doors,  impart some new knowledge and provide guidance to help them reach their personal goals.”

The MIW Group Mentoring Program is named in the memory of Mildred Carter, who, along with her husband Andrew “Skip” Carter, founded the first African-American owned radio station in the U.S. in 1950—KPRS-AM in Kansas City. Mrs. Carter ran the Carter Broadcast Group for many years, after the death of Skip Carter, before turning over control of the company to grandson Michael Carter in 1987.

To date, the MIW Group Mildred Carter Mentoring Program has successfully mentored a total of 43 mentees.

The Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group is a volunteer organization consisting of top-level female media professionals from across the country, who are dedicated to using their influence and resources to help other women in radio broadcasting develop strong management and leadership skills.
