Michael moves into Omaha

KOMJ-AM, a Class C AM station serving Nebraska’s largest city, is headed to a new owner, according to brokerage house Kalil and Co. The station brings standards to the residents of the city.

The seller is Ted Tucker’s Cochise Broadcasting. Michael is buying the station under his Kona Coast Radio brand. The price was not released.

The station, known as Magic 1490, operates unsurprisingly on 1490 kHz with 1 kW-U, ND. It’s licensed to Omaha and its signal is perfectly centered over the market.

KOMJ says it is “…Home to artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Carpenters, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, Diana Krall Michael Buble and many more. Tune your dial to 1490 AM to enjoy the timeless and relaxing music of Omaha’s Magic 1490.”

Editor’s note: Thanks to alert reader Rick Selah for correcting a very basic Nebraska geography error that was in the lead paragraph in an earlier version of this story.
