Tuesday’s ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning (6-10 a.m. ET M-F, simulcast on ESPN2) had an all-over retro look as it celebrated “80’s Day” with a special themed broadcast. Clad in 80’s garb, co-hosts Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg spoke with some of the 80’s sports icons, including Larry Bird, John McEnroe, Joe Montana, Jim McMahon, Kirk Gibson, Jerry Rice, and Mike Eruzione:

Jim McMahon said his Super Bowl champion Bears were full of ‘characters, and that team would never make it in today’s NFL because coaches want too much control

John McEnroe said the change in equipment over the years has taken a lot of the strategy out of the game

Joe Montana said the 49’ers were no dynasty when he arrived and it was fun to be part of the process that built the team into champions

Mike Eurzione said people forget that beating Russia didn’t give them the gold — they still had to win another game, against Finland

Larry Bird talked about the role his rivalry with Magic had in the growth of the NBA
