Mike Esparza, of 94.9’s The Mikey Show (KBZT-FM San Diego), is going to Port-de-Paix, Haiti this fall with the local non-profit organization, Outside the Bowl (OTB). The radio morning show host will be part of a team documenting the lives of malnourished children. The film(s) will be used to bring awareness to a global crisis that kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis…combined.

“I’m blessed to be teaming up with OTB and heading to Haiti,” says Esparza. “When I saw kids in Haiti starving, all I could do is think of my own boys and I knew I had to do something to help.”

The founder and executive director of OTB built the first super kitchen in Paarl, South Africa in 2008. That kitchen is currently serving 1.5 million hot meals a year. A nearly completed kitchen in Port-de-Paix, Haiti will be feeding up to 8,000 people every day. Next up, OTB plans on building a second kitchen in Haiti and one in Tijuana, Mexico. The mass-production facilities directly distribute the hot meals to orphanages, schools, clinics, churches and other in-country organizations in need.
