Milwaukee’s newest radio station, “94.5 Lake FM” debuted at noon yesterday.  The announcement was made by Steve Wexler, executive vice-president of television and radio for Journal Broadcast Group and GM of Journal’s Milwaukee radio stations.

According to Wexler, the new station plays the widest variety of music ever heard on Milwaukee radio, and will feature familiar music spanning many musical styles and eras.  “We’ve listened to what Milwaukee radio listeners have been saying for quite a while…that most radio stations play the same songs over and over.  With the premiere of “94.5 Lake FM,” Milwaukee has a radio station that doesn’t limit itself to a small music playlist.  We’re excited to bring real music variety to the community,” Wexler said.

The programming of the station is under the direction of Tom Land, director of radio programming for Journal Broadcast Group and operations manager of Journal’s Milwaukee radio stations.  “Over the last several months, thousands of Milwaukee radio listeners were interviewed and their feedback helped craft this new radio station, designed to meet their changing tastes.”  Land said, “It’s unpredictable and fun to listen to because ‘The Lake’ will play thousands of songs from the 60’s to today, including Pop, Rock, Top 40 and the timeless classics, and that variety makes it the perfect station to listen to at work.”

“The Lake” will soon have new call letters as well and will change from WKTI to WLWK, once approval is granted.
