Miramax, the studio the Weinstein brothers founded and later sold, have agreed to create sequels of hit films that the Weinstein Company produced for the studio before starting their new production company. It forges a partnership on potential new television shows and special edition home entertainment products as well. The first films to be produced under the deal will be sequels to Bad Santa, Rounders and Shakespeare in Love.

Other potential sequels and TV projects include Bridget Jones’s Diary, Copland, From Dusk Till Dawn, Swingers, Clerks, Shall We Dance, and The Amityville Horror. Miramax will also handle digital distribution on select sequel projects. They’ve also agreed to develop new, special edition materials for Blu-ray releases such as roundtables featuring cast and directors.

The announcement adds to an existing relationship between TWC and Miramax on franchises such as Scream 4 (to be released 4/15/11), Spy Kids 4 (8/19/11) and Scary Movie 5.
