CBS announced that Don Mischer will be Executive Producer of the “61st Primetime Emmy Awards” to be broadcast Sunday, September 20th. It’s hardly a new gig for Mischer, but he’s returning after a five-year hiatus.

“From the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics to the recent Presidential Inauguration at the Lincoln Memorial to Super Bowl halftime shows, Don Mischer is one of the great big event producers of our time,” said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. “He knows how to bring excitement and pageantry to live events, and how to produce memorable moments on television.  He’s proposed some exciting new ideas for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards and we look forward to working with him again to make it an event to remember,” she added.

“The Television Academy is thrilled to have Don returning. He has spent a lot of time thinking about the Primetime Emmy telecast, blending forward and creative thinking with a deep knowledge of and respect for the integrity of the Emmy, which tells us that he is the right person to produce this telecast,” said John Shaffner, Chairman and CEO, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Not only has Mischer produced the Emmy telecast eight times previously, he’s also won 13 Primetime Emmys.

The “61st Primetime Emmy Awards” will be produced by Don Mischer Productions. Nominations will be announced July 16 at 5:40 am (PT) from the Academy’s Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.
