Miss America Pageant staying put in Las Vegas

Since moving from Atlantic City, NJ to Las Vegas in 2006 The Miss American Pageant has taken place at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino – and the Miss America Organization has announced renewal of that relationship for the 90th anniversary pageant in 2011. As previously announced, the pageant will return to ABC after five years on cable.

“The 2011 Miss America Pageant will be returning to the beautiful Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for an exciting week of preliminary competitions, culminating in a totally revamped live telecast on ABC, Saturday, January 15,” the announcement from the Miss America Organization declared.

“We think it is only fitting that 53 of the most beautiful and talented girls on the planet should be here at Planet Hollywood. We are delighted to have the Miss America Pageant return to our resort and we look forward to showcasing all that this property and Las Vegas have to offer,” said Robert Earl, Chairman, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

“We are thrilled to be returning to Planet Hollywood as we mark our 90th anniversary. This year, we are so very proud to share this incredible event with our friends at Planet Hollywood and one of the finest entertainment venues of the world – Las Vegas,” said Sam Haskell III, Chairman of the Board for the Miss America Organization.

The 53 Miss America contestants will hit Vegas in January to begin preliminary competitions in swimsuit, talent, and evening wear. The three nights of preliminaries will take place on January 11, 12 and 13 at Planet Hollywood’s Theatre for the Performing Arts.
