A Welcome Return For A Big Retailer

It’s been said that radio is the perfect media for shuttered retailers set to reopen from COVID-19 related closures to get the word out about how they are welcoming back shoppers. It appears that one of the nation’s biggest department stores has decided to do just that.

With 33,498 spots detected by Media Monitors for the week ending May 10, Macy’s is back in the Spot Ten Radio report.

While Macy’s has been actively engaged in online sales, its stores have largely been closed — until shelter-in-place restrictions in some locales started to fade as April turned into May.

Today, Macy’s message on its website says it all:

Stores are opening! Whenever you’re ready, we’ll be ready for you.
We’re taking every precaution to keep your family and ours safe, including modified store hours. Plus, Contact-Free Curbside Pickup is now available at select locations. Find more details about your store.

Where are Macy’s stores open? The Riverchase Galleria and Brookwood stores in the Birmingham, Ala., market, that’s where.

And, with RBR+TVBR‘s home market of Palm Beach County, Fla., and the city of Delray Beach largely lifting shelter-at-home restrictions today, May 15 is the day The Gardens Mall is set to reopen. A Macy’s store can be found here.

For radio, the hope is that other retailers will follow Macy’s lead, by telling radio listeners that they’re back — and welcoming those tuned to their local stations.
