Retailers Rev Up Back-To-Sales Spots At TV

Children across New York have been cleared to go back to school. In other states, online schooling may be in the works. Regardless, two large department stores have taken to spot TV initiatives to help attract customers — either to their websites or make an in-store purchase.

As seen in the latest Media Monitors Spot Ten TV report, GEICO remains the big leader, with category competitor Progressive is now No. 3.

Sandwiched in between: McDonald’s — the lone brand aside from GEICO with more than 30,000 spot plays.

What may be the most noteworthy activity for the week ending August 9 is the entry into the Spot Ten for both Macy’s and Walmart. This shows the continued faith in broadcast TV’s ability to generate sales, as students seek new outfits and supplies ahead of the start of a unique 2020-2021 school year.

What does the Spot Cable report look like?

Yes, GEICO is the big leader. But, Liberty Mutual Insurance and T-Mobile are very active, as is Amazon.com.
