MMTC Beams Over AM Decision

MMTC-new-logoThe Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council applauded the FCC’s recent action on AM, noting that the commission unanimously adopted several engineering proposals in MMTC’s 2009 “Radio Rescue Petition.”

That petition, and what the agency adopted, included relaxations of restrictions on transmitter locations for daytime and night-time service.

MMTC President/CEO Kim Keenan said MMTC “especially applauds Commissioners Pai and Clyburn for their recent calls to the other commissioners to act quickly on this important item.”

Both MMTC and the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters say AM has been a entry into ownership for minority and women station owners.

In August, MMTC, NABOB and 50 CEOs of small, minority-owned broadcast companies filed a letter with the commission urging the agency to open an FM translator window specifically for AM licensees.

We noted earlier that NABOB thanked the commission for its action as well.
