No longer a future technology, but now reality, Mobile DTV is big at this week’s NAB Show in Las Vegas. Leaders from the NAB, Open Mobile Video Coalition, Advanced Television Systems Committee and Consumer Electronics Association hailed the new technology for broadcast TV stations as they officially opened the Mobile DTV Marketplace.

NAB CEO Gordon Smith pitched Mobile DTV as important to homeland security as he described how Mobile DTV will deliver information to citizens in emergency situations. Also hailing the technology were Mark Richer of ATSC, Jason Oxman of CEA and Brandon Burgess of OMVC as they cut the ribbon to open the display of new Mobile DTV devices – ranging from tiny cell phones to an Apple iPad – receiving broadcasts from local Las Vegas TV stations already delivering Mobile DTV signals within their 6MHz bandwidth.
