Montgomery FM awaiting AM move-in

Frontdoor Broadcasting, part of Allen G. Stroh’s Stroh Communications Corporation, has a deal for an AM station that is moving into the Montgomery AL market, forming an old-fashioned AM-FM combo.

The station is WQLS-AM. Once licensed to Ozark and considered part of the Dothan AL market, it is taking its 1210 kHz facility to Pike Road AL. The Class B station will continue to operate with 10 kw-D and a scant 3 w-N, with permission to use 5 kw during critical hours. The FCC currently lists the station as licensed to Pike Road but silent.

The seller is Hughey Communications Inc., headed by Fred Randall Hughey. The price is $175K. Frontdoor has come up with a $75K initial payment and attorneys will draw up a $100K note calling for $25K payments on the first four closing anniversary dates.

Frontdoor’s FM in the Montgomery market is WVRV-FM, licensed to Pine Level AL.
