The city of Charlottesville, Va., is home to the University of Virginia and Cavalier athletics.

It is also home to a group of stations owned by Monticello Media, led by one of the nation’s top media brokers.

The cluster just named a VP/GM.

Taking the role at the George Reed-owned Monticello Media is Ralph Salierno.

Effective immediately, he will oversee the operations of Talk WCHV-AM 1260 & FM 107.5, Top 40 WHTE-FM “Hot 101.9”, Country WCYK-FM 99.7, Classic Hits WZGN-FM “Generations 102.3,” and WKAV-AM 1400 and its FM translator at 94.1, together branded as Christian Contemporary “The Oasis.”

“Ralph has a great track record and is a respected professional,” Reed says. “We are thrilled to have him on the Monticello team.”

Salierno is the founder of Image Sales Marketing & Advertising, a Washington, D.C.-area consulting firm specializing in sales and media strategies for small to medium-sized businesses. He’s been serving as interim Market Manager for the Monticello stations.

Salierno’s resume includes a three-month stint as VP/GM of Adams Radio Group’s Salisbury-Ocean City, Md., cluster, preceded by a two-year role with Alpha Media as a market manager overseeing Richmond and Fredericksburg, Va.

From November 2003-April 2011, Salierno was Director of Sales for iHeartRadio’s Memphis stations.

For seven years before that, he was GSM of Clear Channel’s Oklahoma City station group.

Earlier career stops include serving as Market Manager for Benchmark Communications-owned WWFG-FM & WOCS-FM in Salisbury-Ocean City from March 1994 through August 1996.

With Salierno’s arrival in Charlottesville, Wanda Birckhead (née Farrar) has been promoted to Director of Sales. She has been the stations’ head of business development since 2010.
