Meredith’s WPTV-TV (Fox) Portland, OR launched two additional hour-long newscasts this month and is claiming immediate ratings success for both. The “5 O’Clock News” debuted September 8th and the station reports that the Nielsen overnights for 9/8-12 gave it a 3.0 Household rating, just behind the time slot’s #1 newscast on KATU-TV (ABC) at 3.1 and ahead of KOIN-TV (CBS) at 2.6.At the same time KPTV also launched the market’s first primetime newscast, “The 8 O’Clock News” on duopoly partner KPDX-TV (MyNetworkTV) and increased ratings for the hour by about 50%. KPDX now airs the MyNetworkTV shows 9-11 pm.
