Tom Marhefka just sold five stations to Three Rivers Communications, which lists Paul Coates among its principals. Marhefka’s Central Ozark Radio Network is now selling KUPH-FM Mountain View MO to KUPH Inc., headed by Paul’s brother Gary Coates. The deal is valued at $400K. KUPH is co-located with one of the stations bought by Three Rivers, KKDY-FM West Plains MO, and Gary will continue to use the site, leasing the space from Paul. The brothers explained that both are experienced radio owners (claiming 40 years each in the biz) and promise that the stations will be operated independently. It will be Gary’s only station in the area. The five station being acquired by Three Rivers, KWPM-AM/KSPQ-FM/KKDY-FM West Plains MO and KUKU AM-FM Willow Springs MO, will join two others – KBMV-FM Birch Tree MO and KHOM-FM Salem AR — in a daisy-chain conglomeration.
