More reps sign on to LRFA

US CongressThe Local Radio Freedom Act is designed to head off the imposition of any new royalty burdens on broadcast radio stations, and in the House of Representatives, the number of legislators who have signed on to support it is growing closer to critical mass.


The new additions to the list bring the total of supporters in the House to 133 – 178 is the number needed to reach the halfway point. Members of both parties have endorsed LRFA.

Ten senators have also signed on to the measure.

The bill states, “Congress should not impose any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over-the-air, or on any business for such public performance of sound recordings.”
