Looking for a new option for a 24/7 radio format at one of your radio stations?

Cumulus Media-owned Westwood One just might have the type of Variety you’re looking for.

Coming in mid-October are two “Variety Hits” formats, one targeting Adult Contemporary listeners, and the other going after rock and roll lovers.

Variety Hits-Pop and Variety Hits-Rock will join 20 other radio formats that Westwood One provides to 1,500 affiliated radio stations.

Variety Hits focuses on “familiar hits from five decades of music” — suggesting more of an adult approach than Top 40 or Hot AC take. WWO is promising “long music sweeps, fun production and imaging, numerous opportunities for local station identification, and complete spot-break flexibility.”

Cumulus says the 24/7 network will be distributed on the STORQ2 delivery platform. “Affiliated stations retain their desired image, slogans and live shows, and local identifiers are supplied by the network imaging voice,” Westwood One notes.

Variety Hits-Pop includes artists such as Journey, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Maroon 5; Variety Hits-Rock is akin to “JACK FM” or “BOB”-branded Adult Hits stations known for their heavy airplay of artists such as Aerosmith, Queen, Nirvana, and Fleetwood Mac.

“The Variety Hits format checks a lot of boxes for many markets, and the time is right for us to build a satellite-delivered version that enhances our successful custom music-scheduled format,” said Westwood One President of Programming Kirk Stirland.  “We designed this to accommodate our customers who wanted an unbranded, flexible structure, with up to 13 opportunities an hour to make it their own.”
