The far-flung media empire of News Corporation includes not a single radio station in the United States, but it does have some in Russia. That won’t be the case for long.
The Moscow Times reports that Vitaly Bogdanov, a member of the Russian Senate from the Kursk region, has cut a deal to buy Nashe Radio, Best FM and Ultra. All are based in Moscow and Nashe also has a transmitter in St. Petersburg. Bogdanov already owns two other stations.
There was no price disclosed, but News Corp. had reportedly not succeeded in efforts last fall to sell the stations for $16 million. CEO Rupert Murdoch indicated as far back as 2008 that News Corp. would like to exit the Russian market. A deal to sell its largest Russian media holding, News Outdoor, did not get to closing.
