NAB Responds To Indie Radio Licensees On ZoneCasting Stance

On Wednesday (7/21), a collection of independent broadcasters wrote to NAB President/CEO Curtis LeGeyt. They had one goal in mind: to convince the broadcast media industry’s biggest lobbyist Inside The Beltway to amend its position on a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would allow the voluntary use of GeoBroadcast Services’ “ZoneCasting” offering across the U.S.

ZoneCasting requires program origination from FM boosters, and the NAB, an early supporter of the technology, now opposes it. On Thursday, it offered a response to the 59 independently owned broadcast groups that want the NAB to strike its position that the radio industry is unified in its opposition to geotargeting.
