NABOB Fall Conference Is On. It’s Opposite NAB Show NY

The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) will host its 46th annual Fall Broadcast Conference and 22nd Power of Urban Radio Forum as a live in-person event in mid-October.

Attendees may want to plan their trip carefully. The NABOB affair is a direct snub of NAB Show New York’s radio industry events still to be made finalized by the industry’s biggest lobbying and advocacy voice.

The NABOB affair has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 19 through Friday, October 21, 2022 at the MGM National Harbor Resort & Casino, the Urban One-owned venue located just outside of Washington, D.C.

It just so happens that October 19 is the date of the “Radio Insights” executive seminar at NAB Show New York now presented by Bloomberg, which will host afternoon events at its headquarters following morning events at the Javits Center. And, October 20 is the date of the NAB Show New York’s “Radio Reimagined” — described by the NAB as “an all-new radio experience that helps you reimagine your content, reimagine your business and reimagine your success with exclusive conference tracks for NAB members.”

Perhaps the NAB member exclusivity led NABOB to effectively snub the “limited capacity” Gotham affair, a 4-hour train ride to the northeast once one gets from National Harbor to Union Station. Or not. A special executive session, titled “One-on-One With Radio Trailblazers” features none other than Cathy Hughes, founder and Chairperson of MGM National Harbor owner Urban One. She will appear alongside Beasley Media Group President/CEO Caroline Beasley “in a candid conversation about their roles in shaping today’s radio landscape and why they believe radio is poised to flourish in the years to come.” Additional speakers and sessions will be announced soon.

The NABOB event, which is branded “The 2022 By Black Conference,” was created in partnership with the U.S. Black Chambers (USBC).

The 2022 By Black Conference is a three-day event that brings together Black broadcast media owners, senior advertising and marketing executives, local sales management, leading on-air talent, policy leadership, entrepreneurs, cultural creatives, and corporate executives, NABOB says.

At the same time, The Power of Urban Radio Forum will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Black Radio. Attendees are invited to take part in a hands-on workshop facilitated by Proctor & Gamble (P&G) and learn from executives from dentsu, Toyota, GroupM, IPG/Magna Global, General Motors, Publicis Media, and other forthcoming speakers.

A highlight of the event is a keynote address from Marc Pritchard, Chief Brand Officer at Proctor & Gamble Co. and a frequent convention speaker.

NABOB will also honor NABOB President Jim Winston as he celebrates 40 years of service.

Lastly, there is a new addition to the 2022 programming lineup, with a “Local Broadcast Day” featuring informative presentations and panels detailing strategies to improve local sales performance and talent development.
