NAB’s Smith: Rule ‘Modernization’ Essential For Media Survival


LAS VEGAS — With now-retired radio industry journalist Tom Taylor honored with the Spirit of Broadcasting Award for his many years of work and actor Alan Alda earning the Distinguished Service Award, the 2019 NAB Show kicked off in high style Monday on the Main Stage of the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

But the big statement to come from the official opening session involved Washington, and a call for a loosening of media regulations amid threats to local journalism — let alone quarterly revenues — from ever-growing tech companies.
