NBC Friday w/ ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ takes 2nd place

At 8 p.m. ET, the premiere of “Who Do You Think You Are?” (1.6/6 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall) finished within a tenth of a rating point of first place for the hour in adults 18-49 and is currently #1 or tied for #1 among the major networks in adults 18-34, women 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54.      
 
“Who Do You Think You Are?” improved on NBC’s average in this time period during the traditional 2008-09 season by 33% in 18-49 (1.6 vs. 1.2) and 53% in total viewers (6.850 million vs. 4.471 million).   
 
From 9-11 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (1.7/6 in adults 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) reported the show’s highest Friday 18-49 rating since January 8.  “Dateline” finished #2 among the major networks in the time period in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers.  From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Dateline” increased its 18-49 rating by 43 percent (to a 2.0 rating from a 1.4) and its overall audience by 23 percent or 1.5 million persons (to 8.0 million from 6.5 million).  “Dateline” out-rated ABC’s two hours of “20/20” in nearly all key ratings categories — adults, men and women 18-34, adults, men and women 18-49 and adults and men 25-54, as well as total viewers.  


“Dateline” improved on NBC’s average in this time period during the traditional 2008-09 season by 21% in 18-49 (1.7 vs. 1.4) and 44% in total viewers (7.167 million vs. 4.992 million). 

For its second hour from 10-11 p.m., “Dateline NBC” was #1 in adults 18-49, as well as men 18-49, women 18-49 and women 18-34 and tied for #1 in adults 18-34.  This marks the fourth consecutive night NBC has ranked #1 or tied for #1 in adults 18-49 for the 10 p.m. hour. 

NBC is tied for #1 Friday night in adults 18-49.  If the tie stands in official nationals, it will be NBC’s first share of the Friday lead, excluding Olympic nights, since December 11, and NBC’s highest-rated non-Olympic Friday since January 8.
