NBC gets to bask in Olympic glory

Seven nights of Vancouver Olympics coverage gave NBC seven of the top nine shows (including the top two) for the past week in Nielsen’s Household ratings, although three nights of “American Idol” on Fox were #1, #2 and #3 in the key 18-49 demo. NBC still won the total week in all demos.


In HH NBC scored a 12.4 rating and 20 share, with Fox at 6.3/10, CBS 4.9/8, ABC 3.6/6, Univision 1.9/3, CW 0.9/1, Ion 0.7/1, Telemundo and TeleFutura 0.5/1 and Azteca America 0.1/0.

In 18-49 NBC was at 5.5/15, Fox 4.1/11, CBS 2.0/5, ABC 1.9/5, Univision 1.4/4, CW 0.6/2, TeleFutura and Telemundo 0.5/1, Ion 0.3/1 and Azteca America 0.1/0.

For the season to date, NBC moved ahead of ABC into third place with its Olympics coverage. However, ABC is about to move into a new cycle of “Dancing With the Stars,” while NBC is going to…well, at least it’s not going to run Jay Leno in primetime anymore.
