“Nightly” Sees Best Delivery in Over Five Years


“NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” was the most watched network evening newscast for the week of February 8 – 14, 2010, according to Nielsen Media Research data. During the week, “Nightly” saw 11.049 million total viewers, +1.808 million more than ABC “World News,'” 9.241 million and +3.955 million more than CBS “Evening News'” 7.094 million. Last week was “Nightly’s” best total viewer delivery in over five years (since the week of January 17, 2005). On Wednesday night, “Nightly” delivered 11.886 million viewers, the best single day delivery in over four years (since January 2, 2006).

Friday night, “Nightly News” broadcast live from Vancouver, where they will remain through the duration of the Olympic Games. The weekend saw high viewership with 12.360 million total viewers (+7.562 million more than “World News”) on the Saturday edition of “Nightly News” and 13.920 million total viewers (+8.890 million more than “World News”) on the Sunday edition of “Nightly News.” Last week was “Nightly’s” best total viewer advantage over “World News” since the week of August 18, 2008 (the Beijing Olympics). Season-to-date, Nightly leads World News by +1.104 million total viewers and is the only newscast to show growth versus the same period last season.

Last week, “Nightly” also led in the key demo adults 25-54. “Nightly” delivered a 2.8 rating A25-54, ahead of “World News'” 2.3 and “Evening News'” 1.8. Last week was “Nightly’s” best rating A25-54 in over a year (since January 26, 2009). With 3.465 million A25-54 (000) viewers last week, the newscast beat “World News” by +663,000 viewers. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +475,000 viewers A25-54. This is the 64th consecutive week “Nightly” has topped “World News” in this key demo.

As the number one network broadcast last week, “Nightly News” delivered a 7.1/13 Household rating, with “World News” in second place with a 6.0/11, and “Evening News” in third with a 4.8/9.

On its digital platforms, “Nightly” continued its strong performance last week with more than 4.1 million online streams for the week ending February 13, 2010.
