NBC orders “1600 Penn,” “Animal Practice”


NBCNBC has picked up its fourth and fifth comedy series for the 2012-13 TV season, ordering 13 episodes of “1600 Penn,” a White House family comedy produced by 20th Television. It stars Bill Pullman stars as the President. “1600 Penn” revolves around the dysfunctional first family. The series comes from “Modern Family” director Jason Winer, former speechwriter to President Obama Jon Lovett and “Book of Mormon’s” Josh Gad (also co-stars).

NBC also ordered 13 episodes of Universal Television’s “Animal Practice,” an office comedy from revolves around a veterinarian (Justin Kirk) who loves animals but typically hates their owners (sort of like Fox’s “House.”)

The pickups join NBC’s previously greenlighted comedies “Save Me,” “Go On” with Matthew Perry, “The New Normal” and drama “Revolution,” from J.J. Abrams.
