NBC Primetime April 5-11 “The Biggest Loser” give peacock stability

Led by “The Biggest Loser,” “Parenthood,” “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Celebrity Apprentice,” NBC averaged a 1.7 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 5.2 million viewers overall for the week of April 5-11, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.


Primetime averages for the week of April 5-11 in adults 18-49 were Fox (3.0/9), CBS (2.9/9), ABC (2.1/6), NBC (1.7/5) and CW (0.9/3). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (11.6 million), Fox (8.7 million), ABC (7.4 million), NBC (5.2 million) and CW (1.9 million).

Season to date through 29 weeks, NBC ranks #3 among the major networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, and is tied for #2 in adults 18-34.

NBC highlights for the week of April 5-11:

* On Sunday, “The Celebrity Apprentice” grew by 41 percent in 18-49 rating and by 27 percent or more than 1.6 million persons in total viewers from its first half-hour to its fourth, to rank #1 among the major network in the final hour of primetime in adults 18-49 and other key demographics.

* “Celebrity Apprentice” was up 18 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC’s non-sports average in its time period this season prior to “Celebrity Apprentice.”

* Also on Sunday, a rebroadcast of “Minute To Win It” grew from half-hour to half-hour by 45 percent in adults 18-49 and by 22 percent in total viewers. The five regular-slot telecasts of “Minute To Win It” have all grown substantially from half-hour to half-hour, increasing an average 31 percent in adults 18-49 and 24 percent in total viewers.

* NBC’s Sunday primetime audience built steadily throughout the night, more than doubling in total viewers and more than quadrupling in 18-49 rating from the first to the final half-hour of primetime.

* On Thursday, “The Marriage Ref” built on its lead-in from an encore episode of “30 Rock” by 31 percent in adult 18-49 rating and by 29 percent in total viewers. “Marriage Ref” ranked #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49 and all other key demographics as well as in total viewers.

* On Wednesday, “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” won the 10 p.m. ET hour in adults 18-49, marking the first time since September 2007 that a regular-slot competitor in this time period has beaten an original episode of CBS’s “CSI: NY” in adults 18-49. “SVU” also ranked #1 in adults 18-34 and other key demos.

* Also on Wednesday, “Minute To Win It” delivered the biggest half-hour-to-half-hour increases of any major network in the 8 p.m. ET hour, increasing by 31 percent in adults 18-49 and by 22 percent or nearly 1.2 million persons in total viewers. In the time slot, “Minute” tied for #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49.

* On Tuesday, “Parenthood” won its time period in adults 18-49 over the original drama competition of CBS’s “The Good Wife” and ABC’s “V.” “Parenthood” also ranked #1 among the major networks in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49. “Parenthood” was up in both adults 18-49 and total viewers versus the prior week.

* Also on Tuesday, “The Biggest Loser” gained 44 percent in adults 18-49 and 33 percent or more than 2.2 million persons in total viewers from its first half-hour to its fourth, despite competition that included Fox’s two-hour “American Idol,” ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” results show and “Lost” and CBS’s “NCIS” and “NCIS: LA.” Week-to-week, “Loser” was up 7 percent in adults 18-49.

* On Monday, “Chuck” matched its highest 18-49 rating in four weeks and hit a three-week high in total viewers.

Ratings reflect “live plus same day” data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of “live plus seven day” data except for the two most recent weeks, which are “live plus same day.”

On Monday, April 5 from 8-9 p.m. ET, “Chuck” (2.1 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) matched its highest 18-49 rating in four weeks and hit a three-week high in total viewers. “Chuck” tied Fox’s “24” head-to-head from 8-9 p.m. in adults 18-49 and topped “24” in adults 18-34. From its first half-hour to its second, “Chuck” grew by 10 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 2.2 from a 2.0). It is worth noting that so far this season, “Chuck” has added an average 22 percent to its 18-49 rating and more than 1.1 million total viewers when going from its “live plus same day” to its “live plus seven day” results.

Monday at 9 p.m. ET, “Trauma” averaged a 1.5/4 in 18-49 and 5.0 million viewers overall in a time period that included competition from CBS’s NCAA Basketball Championship, ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” and Fox’s “24.” “Trauma” matched its highest 18-49 rating since November 30. Week-to-week, “Trauma” was up 6 percent in total viewers (5.0 million vs. 4.7 million).

Monday from 10-11 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of “Law and Order” averaged a 1.3/3 in adults 18-49 and 4.7 million viewers overall.

On Tuesday, April 6 from 8-10 p.m. ET, “The Biggest Loser: Couples” (3.0/8 in adults 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall) grew week-to-week by 7 percent in adults 18-49 (3.0 vs. 2.8) and 3 percent in total viewers (7.7 million vs. 7.4 million). “Biggest Loser” ranked #2 in women 18-49 and 18-34 in a time period that included competition from Fox’s two-hour “American Idol,” ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” results show and “Lost” and CBS’s “NCIS” and “NCIS: LA.”

From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Loser” gained 44 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 3.6/9 from a 2.5/8) and 33 percent or more than 2.2 million persons in total viewers (to 8.9 million from 6.7 million).

Tuesday from 10-11 p.m. ET, “Parenthood” (2.6/7 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall) won its time period in adults 18-49 over the original drama competition of CBS’s “The Good Wife” and ABC’s “V.” “Parenthood” also ranked #1 among the major networks in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49. Week-to-week, “Parenthood” was up 4 percent in adults 18-49 (2.6 vs. 2.5). It’s worth noting that “Parenthood” has added an average 32 percent to its 18-49 rating and more than 1.7 million total viewers when going from its “live plus same day” to its “live plus seven day” results.

On Wednesday, April 7 from 8-9 p.m. ET, “Minute To Win It” (1.8/6 in adults 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) tied for #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49. This matches NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in this Wednesday time period since the Winter Olympics.

From its first half-hour to its second, “Minute To Win It” delivered the biggest half-hour-to-half-hour increases of any major network in the time period, increasing by 31 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 2.1/6 from a 1.6/5) and by 22 percent or nearly 1.2 million persons in total viewers (to 6.5 million from 5.4 million).

Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” averaged a 1.4/4 in 18-49 and 4.9 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, the “SVU” rebroadcast grew by 15 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.5 from a 1.3).

Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.5/7 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) won its time period in adults 18-49, marking the first time since September 26, 2007 that a regular-slot competitor in this time period has beaten an original episode of CBS’s “CSI: NY” in adults 18-49. “SVU” also ranked #1 in adults, men and women 18-34 and women 18-49.

From its first half-hour to its second, “SVU” increased in all key ratings categories, with growth of 13 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 2.7 from a 2.4), 10 percent in adults 25-54 (3.2 vs. 2.9) and 9 percent in total viewers (to 8.7 million from 8.0 million). “Law and Order: SVU” has added an average 23 percent to its 18-49 rating and more than 1.3 million total viewers when going from its “live plus same day” to its “live plus seven day” results

“SVU” was up 19 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC’s average in this time period for the traditional 2008-09 season (2.5 vs. 2.1). In total viewers, “SVU” was also up 19 percent or 1.3 million persons versus NBC’s average in the slot for the 2008-09 regular season (8.4 million vs. 7.0 million).

This marks the sixth consecutive week that “SVU” has ranked #1 or tied for #1 in the Wednesday 10 p.m. ET hour.

On Thursday, April 8, from 8-8:30 p.m. ET, an encore episode of “Community” averaged a 1.2/4 in 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers overall in a time period that included all first-run competition on the major networks. From 8:30-9 p.m., a rebroadcast of “Parks and Recreation” (1.3/6 in adults 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 8 percent in adults 18-49 and 20 percent in adults 18-34 (1.2 vs. 1.0).

Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “The Office” (1.9/6 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the major networks in adults and women 18-34 and tied for #2 in men 18-34. From 9:31-10 p.m., a rebroadcast of “30 Rock” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the major networks in the slot in women 18-34.

Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, “The Marriage Ref” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 31 percent in 18-49 rating and by 29 percent in total viewers. “Marriage Ref” ranked #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49 and all other key categories. “Ref” finished within one share of the time period lead in adults 18-34. “Marriage Ref” has added an average 18 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its “live plus same day” to its “live plus seven day” results

On Friday, April 9 from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Who Do You Think You Are?” averaged a 1.1/4 in adults 18-49 and 4.1 million viewers overall. In the time period, the “Who Do You Think You Are” rebroadcast ranked #2 in adults 18-49 (tied) and adults 25-54.

Friday from 9-11 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” reported a 1.3/4 in 18-49 and 5.3 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Dateline’ increased by 27 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.4 from a 1.1). For its second hour from 10-11 p.m. ET, “Dateline” tied for #1 among the major networks in adults 18-49. From 10-11 p.m., “Dateline” topped ABC’s “20/20” head-to-head in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers. .

On Saturday, April 10, from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Parenthood” averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers overall. At 9 p.m., a rebroadcast of “Law and Order” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall) increased from its first half-hour to its second by 29 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 0.9 from a 0.7) and by 23 percent in total viewers (to 4.0 million from 3.3 million).

Saturday from 10-11 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 50 percent in 18-49 rating and by 24 percent in total viewers.

On Sunday, April 12, from 7-8 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” averaged a 0.8/3 in adults 18-49 and 3.7 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, “Dateline” increased by 14 percent in 18-49 rating (to 0.8 from 0.7).
