A federal judge wouldn’t let ousted Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich leave the country while awaiting trial on corruption charges. However, his wife, Patti, has now been booked to head to the Costa Rican jungle to appear in NBC’s “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.”

The former Land of Lincoln first couple appeared on Thursday’s “Today” show to announce that Patti Blagojevich will compete in the reality show and that the producers may have some sort of role in mind for Ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich, even though he’s stranded stateside.

“In this terrible economic time, I feel it’s necessary to go to work and support my family,” Patti Blagojevich said in a Today interview. Her husband, after all, is unemployed since the Illinois Senate ejected him from office for allegedly trying to sell President Barack Obama’s former US Senate seat. Meanwhile, his legal bills are mounting as he prepares for a federal trial on corruption charges.

“My husband’s an honest man. I truly believe he will be vindicated,” she said.

Rod Blagojevich also insisted that he is innocent and endorsed his wife’s decision to take the reality TV gig. “She’s willing to go in the jungle for her kids,” he said.
