Actually the US Open Championship has been seen in primetime before due to weather delays, but this year NBC is scheduling the gold tourney to be seen both Saturday and Sunday in primetime, June 14-15. Yes, Tiger Woods is expected to be back from knee surgery to go after his third Open title.

"What a great way to spend Father’s Day weekend, with the best golfers in the world playing America’s championship in primetime," said Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics.

Coverage from Torrey Pines in San Diego will air Saturday, June 14th from 4-10 pm ET. Final round coverage on Sunday, June 15th, will air 3-9 pm ET. NBC Sports notes that three of the next five US Open Championships will take place on the West Coast, making it ideal for primetime broadcasting on the East Coast. In addition to Torrey Pines, the Open will return to Pebble Beach, CA in 2010 and in 2012 will be played at Olympic Club in San Francisco.

NBC Sports will provide more than 16 hours of high definition US Open coverage this year – the most extensive coverage provided for any golf event and the only one with network coverage of first- and second-round play.
