NBC: “Talent” #1 for the night

NBCMonday Results: From 8-9 p.m. ET, “America’s Got Talent” (2.8 rating, 9 share in adults 18-49, 11.2 million viewers overall) delivered the #1 results of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures on a night that included ABC’s “Bachelorette” (2.3/7 in 18-49) and premiere of “Glass House” (1.6/4) and Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” (2.5/8) and “MasterChef” (2.3/6).  Despite being preempted on the prior Monday, “Talent” returned to win its competitive hour among those networks in 18-49, total viewers and other key categories.  Versus NBC’s average in this time period last summer, “America’s Got Talent” is up 155 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.8 from a 1.1) and up 131 percent in total viewers (11.166 million vs. 4.832 million).  From its first half-hour to its second, this week’s “Talent” grew by 11 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 3.0 from a 2.7) and 12 percent or 1.2 million persons in total viewers (11.8 million vs. 10.6 million).


From 9-11 p.m. ET, “American Ninja Warrior” (2.0/6 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) grew versus last week’s special Tuesday telecast by 18 percent in 18-49 rating (with a 2.0 vs. 1.7) and by 15 percent in total viewers (5.755 million vs. 4.986 million).   Versus NBC’s average in this time period last summer, “American Ninja Warrior” is up 82 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.0 from a 1.1) and up 25 percent in total viewers (5.755 million vs. 4.618 million).  Versus NBC’s special telecast of “American Ninja Warrior” last summer, this week’s telecast is up 18 percent in 18-49 rating (with a 2.0 vs. a 1.7 from 9-11 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011) and up 22 percent in total viewers (5.755 million vs. 4.718 million).

·       For its second hour from 10-11 p.m. ET, “American Ninja Warrior” is #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and other key demos ahead of ABC’s premiere of “Glass House” and Fox’s special encores of “Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men” (with a 2.0 rating vs. a 1.6 each for ABC and CBS in the 10 p.m. hour).

·       In the 10:30 lead-in to local news, “American Ninja Warrior” generated a 10 percent margin of victory in the key news demo of adults 25-54 (with a 2.2 rating vs. a 2.0 for CBS’s second-place “Two and a Half Men” encore).  “American Ninja Warrior” is also #1 in the 10:30 half-hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and total viewers.

NBC is #1 for the night in total viewers among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox and #2 in adults 18-49, currently within a tenth of a rating point of Fox (and tied with Fox head to head from 8-10 p.m.).

In Late-Night Metered Markets Monday night:

In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 2.4/6; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 2.3/6; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 3.0/7; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.4/4 with an encore.

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.8/3; “Late Show,” 0.6/3; “Nightline,” 1.0/4; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.6/3 with an encore.

At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.3/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.1/4).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped “Late Late Show” (0.3/2).

At 1:35 a.m., “Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.4/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

For the Week:

·       With Tuesday’s “America’s Got Talent” ranking as the #1 non-sports telecast on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox for a third week in a row in both adults 18-49 and total viewers, NBC’s primetime lineup has finished #2 among those networks in 18-49 and total viewers for the week of June 11-17.  According to “live plus same day” viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research, NBC averaged a 1.6 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 6.1 million viewers overall for the week.

·       The broad-based hit “America’s Got Talent” was the week’s #1 non-sports telecast on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, total viewers, adults 25-54, adults 18-34 (tie), households, teens 12-17 and kids 2-11.

·       Among NBC’s top-ranked programs for the week, Tuesday’s “America’s Got Talent” finished #4 in adult 18-49 overall and #1 among non-sports programs, Sunday’s U.S. Open golf coverage tied for #10, Monday’s Stanley Cup Game 6 tied for #14, Tuesday’s “American Ninja Warrior” and Saturday’s U.S. Open coverage tied for #16 and Tuesday’s “Love in the Wild” and a Thursday encore of “Talent” tied for #20 (rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows).

·       In total viewers, “America’s Got Talent” was also #4 overall and #1 non-sports for the week, while Sunday’s U.S. Open coverage was #6 and Saturday’s was #9.

·       Primetime averages for the week of June 11-17 in adults 18-49 were: ABC (3.0/10), NBC (1.6/5), Fox (1.5/5), CBS (1.1/3) and CW (0.2/1).  In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: ABC (8.3 million), NBC (6.1 million), CBS (5.5 million), Fox (4.0 million) and CW (0.6 million).

·       For the 2011-12 broadcast year to date, NBC is tied for #3 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 rating and is #3 outright in viewers 18-49.  NBC is the only network among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox that’s up versus one year ago in viewers 18-49.  NBC is also #2 in adults 18-34 for the broadcast year to date.  Averages for the broadcast year through 38 weeks are: Fox (3.1/9), CBS (2.8/8), NBC (2.4/7), ABC (2.4/7) and CW (0.7/2).  In overall total viewers, the broadcast-year averages are: CBS (11.2 million), Fox (8.6 million), ABC (8.2 million), NBC (7.2 million) and CW (1.6 million).
