NBC Wednesday; ‘Mercy’ returned w/ 3rd place finish, ‘Leno’ stays #1

At 8 p.m., “Mercy” averaged a 1.2/4 in adults 18-49 and 5.0 million viewers overall.


At 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” averaged a 1.4/4 in adults 18-49 and 5.3 million viewers overall.  Week to week, the 9 p.m. rebroadcast of “SVU” is up 17 percent in 18-49 (1.4 vs. 1.2) and 29 percent in total viewers (5.3 million vs. 4.1 million).

At 10 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.7/8 in adults 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) finished #2 in the time period, and #1 excluding Fox’s 24-minute “American Idol” overrun into the hour, in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key ratings categories.  Against encore competition on ABC and CBS, “Law & Order:

Special Victims Unit” matched the combined ABC-CBS rating.  Versus its prior original on April 7, “Law & Order: SVU” was up by 8 percent in 18-49 (2.7 vs. 2.5) and 4 percent in total viewers (8.7 million vs. 8.4 million).  This week’s “SVU” was up 29 percent versus NBC’s 2.1 average in this slot for the traditional 2008-09 season (“live plus same day”).  In total viewers, “SVU” was up 24 percent or 1.7 million persons versus NBC’s 7.032 million average in the hour during the traditional ’08-09 season.

This marks the seventh consecutive time a “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” original has ranked #1 or tied for #1 among regular programs in this time period in 18-49. 
In Late-Night Metered Markets Wednesday night:

“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (3.3/8 in metered-market households) out-delivered CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman” (2.5/6) and ABC’s combination of “Nightline (2.7/6) and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (1.3/4) in Nielsen’s 56 metered markets. 
 
In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (1.1/5) ranked #1 among the major networks in the time period over “Late Show” (0.7/3), “Nightline” (1.1/5) and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (0.6/3).

At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.4/5 in metered-market households with an encore telecast) topped CBS’s first-run “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.3/5).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.6/3 in 18-49 with an encore telecast) topped the first-run “Late Late Show” (0.4/2).

At 1:35 a.m., “Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households with an encore telecast and a 0.4/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
