NBC wins w/ 'Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular'

At 9 p.m. ET, “Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular” (2.1/7 in 18-49, 8.6 million viewers overall) hit a four-year high in 18-49 rating and an 11-year high in total viewers. 
“Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular” displayed the night’s #1 results in 18-49 and total viewers, with gains versus last year’s Sunday telecast of 50 percent in adults 18-49 (2.1 vs. 1.4) and 25 percent or 1.7 million persons in total viewers (8.646 million vs. 6.918 million). 


In the 9 p.m. hour, “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” ranked #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key ratings categories.  From its first half-hour to its second, the “Macy’s” special increased in 18-49 by 41 percent (to a 2.4 from a 1.7) and in total viewers by 50 percent or more than 3.4 million persons (to 10.4 million from 6.9 million).

This is the highest 18-49 rating for the “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” in four years, since Wednesday, July 4, 2007, and the annual telecast’s biggest overall audience in 11 years, since Tuesday, July 4, 2000 .    

At 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular” (1.4/5 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 ahead of CBS’s original “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular” and ABC’s encore “Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.”  The “Macy’s” rebroadcast also ranked #1 or tied for #1 for the hour in all other key demographics.

At 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “America’s Got Talent” (1.2/5 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, total viewers and virtually all other key categories.  The “Talent” rebroadcast is currently the #3 telecast of the night behind only the 9 p.m. initial run and 10 p.m. encore of “Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular.”

NBC is #1 for the night among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key categories.  NBC won six of six primetime half-hour in adults 18-49.

Note that some local market Fourth of July preemptions on all networks were included in these preliminary fast-affiliate ratings but will be excluded from official national ratings.
