NBC's 'Law Order: SVU' solid second place Wednesday

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” matched its highest adult 18-49 rating since September 22 and dominated the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in all key demographics.


From 8-10 p.m. ET, a special two-hour edition of  “Minute To Win It” (2.4/6 in adults 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall ) generated exceptional growth from its first half-hour through its fourth, increasing by 113 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 3.4 from a 1.6) and by 87 percent or 4.8 million persons in total viewers (10.4 million vs. 5.6 million).   

“Minutes To Win It” set a new season high in 18-49 rating (2.4) and tied its series high, set the night of “Minute’s” series premiere, Sunday, March 14, 2010, with an 8-9 p.m. ET telecast that followed the show’s 7-8 p.m. premiere. 

In total viewers, last night’s 7.697 million is a new series high (pending updates), topping the prior mark of 7.656 million set Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 from 8-9 p.m.  In last night’s time period, “Minute” is tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW and #2 outright in total viewers.  On the two-hour telecast, the Bishop family came within one challenge of winning the show’s million-dollar prize.

For its second hour from 9-10 p.m., “Minute To Win It” tied NBC’s season-high 3.0 rating in adults 18-49.  From 9-10 p.m., “Minute” finished within a tenth of a rating point of #1 in adults 18-49 and led the hour in adults 25-54, men 25-54 (tie) and women 25-54.  For it final half-hour from 9:30-10 p.m., “Minute” was #1 among ABC, CBC, NBC, Fox and CBS in all key ratings categories — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers.

The 3.0 rating in 18-49 and 9.524 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET represent the top-rated hour to date for “Minute To Win It.”

At 10 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.9/8 in adults 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall) matched its highest adult 18-49 rating since September 22 and dominated the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in all key demographics — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers.  Versus original competition from CBS’s “Blue Bloods” and ABC’s “Off the Map, “SVU” won the hour by a 61 percent margin in adults 18-49 (with a 2.9 rating vs. a 1.8 for ABC’s second-place “Off the Map”).

In the 10:30 lead-in to local news, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” locked up a 44 percent margin of victory in the key news demo of adults 25-54 (with a 3.6 rating vs. a 2.5 for CBS’s #2 “Blue Bloods”) and dominated all other key demographics..
