NBC's 'Law Order: SVU' solid winner Wednesday

At 8 p.m. ET, “Minute To Win It” (2.1/6 in adults 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the slot among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, as well as adults 18-34 and 25-54 and other key categories in a time period that included original competition from CBS’s regular-slot debut of “Live To Dance,” ABC’s “The Middle” and “Better With You” and Fox’s “Human Target.”  “Minute To Win It” is up 24 percent versus NBC’s time-period average last season in adults 18-49 (2.1 vs. 1.7, L+SD). 


From its first half-hour to its second, “Minute To Win It” grew by 26 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.5 from a 1.9) and by 23 percent or 1.4 million persons in total viewers (7.5 million vs. 6.1 million).  For its second half-hour from 8:30-9 p.m., “Minute To Win It” pulled within a tenth of a rating point of #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 and took over the time-period lead in men 18-49, adults 18-34 (tie), men 18-34 and women 18-34 (tie).

Head-to-head versus CBS’s regular-slot debut of “Live To Dance,” “Minute To Win It” prevailed in adults 18-49 and nearly all other key demographic categories, including adults and men 18-34, men and women 18-49 and adults, men and women 25-54.  The “Minute” margin over “Live To Dance” in adults 18-49 was 17 percent (with a 2.1 rating vs. a 1.8).  That adult 18-49 margin increased from 6 percent during the 8-8:30 half-hour to 33 percent from 8:30 to 9 p.m., as “Minute” grew in rating by 26 percent from half-hour to half-hour (to a 2.5 from a 1.9) while “Live To Dance” remained flat (1.8 vs. 1.8).

From 9-11 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.9/8 in adults 18-49, 10.7 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in the two-hour time period in adults, men and women 18-49; adults, men and women 25-54; and total viewers.  Versus NBC’s slot averages last season, “Law & Order: SVU” is up 53 percent in adult 18-49 rating (2.9 vs. 1.9) and up 68 percent in total viewers (10.708 million vs. 6.367 million).

The special two-hour edition of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” captured the show’s highest 18-49 rating since September 22 and biggest overall audience since SVU’s 2008-09 season finale on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.  Earlier this season, regular originals of “Law & Order: SVU” aired Wednesdays at 9 p.m. and starting next week, “SVU” originals move to the 10 p.m. hour. 

In the 10:30 lead-in to local news, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” delivered a 32 margin of victory in the key news demo of adults 25-54 (with a 3.7 rating vs. a 2.8 for CBS’s second-place “People’s Choice Awards”).  “SVU” also led the 10:30 half-hour among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults and men 18-34; adults, men and women 18-49; men and women 25-54; and total viewers. 

NBC tied for #1 for the night among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 (with a 2.7 rating each for NBC and ABC) and is also tied for #1 in adults 25-54 and is #1 outright in total viewers.
