NBC’s Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer does well

Wednesday 10/28/09 the ratings ratings run down for NBC:


* From 8-8:30 p.m. ET, “Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space” averaged a 2.2/6 in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers overall.  “Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space” was the time period’s dominant major-network telecast among kids 2-11, averaging a 3.4 rating to top the closest non-sports competition, ABC’s encore of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (2.1 among kids 2-11).  “Monsters vs. Aliens” grabbed NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in this time period since September 23.

* “Monsters vs. Aliens” was #2 in the time period and the #1 non-sports telecast on the major networks in teens, total viewers, adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 and most other key demographics. 

* From 8:30-9 p.m., an encore telecast of “Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space” averaged a 1.9/5 in 18-49 and 5.6 million viewers overall.  “Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space” was the time period’s dominant major-network telecast among kids 2-11, averaging a 3.2 rating in that demo.

* At 9 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” averaged a 2.7/7 in adults 18-49 and 8.0 million viewers overall.  From its first half-hour to its second, “SVU” increased its adult 18-49 rating by 11% (to a 3.0 from a 2.7).  From its first half-hour to its second, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” increased its 18-49 rating by 16% (to a 2.9 from a 2.5).

* “Law & Order: SVU” is up 59 percent in 18-49 versus NBC’s 1.7 average in this slot for the traditional 2008-09 season.  In total viewers, “SVU” is up 37% versus NBC’s 5.854 million average in the hour during the traditional ’08-09 season.

* From 10-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged a 1.5 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49; a 1.7/4 in adults 25-54 and 5.0 million viewers overall.  Last night’s time-period competition included Fox’s coverage of the Phillies-Yankees Game 1 of the World Series, CBS’s “CSI: NY” encore and ABC’s “Eastwick.”

* “The Jay Leno Show” matched its adults 18-49 rating of the prior Wednesday, despite last night’s World Series competition.

* “The Jay Leno Show” tied for #1 among the time period’s non-sports telecasts on the major networks in men 18-34. 

* Comparisons to Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” are: in adults 18-49 (1.5 vs. 1.4), adults 25-54 (1.7 vs. 1.8) and total viewers (5.0 million vs. 5.1 million).  Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to Jay’s debut are: in adults 18-49, 1.5 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 1.7 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 5.0 million vs. 6.9 million).

In Late-Night Local People Meters Wednesday night:

* Conan O’Brien (1.0/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) defeated CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.8/3) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.

* At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.7/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) topped CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.5/3).
