NBCU deploys VCI Solutions’ Orion system for the 2008 Olympics

VCI Solutions announced NBC Universal has chosen to utilize their Orion Business System for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Orion will manage key back-office functions for NBCU, including sales and traffic.  Although the Olympics have not yet begun to air, Orion’s real-time spot placement engine is already up and scheduling.

The capability that Orion offers allows networks to view their commercial inventory and spot placement in real-time with Inventory Explorer.  This synchronized view streamlines the entire operation by providing a more efficient and effective log control, while reducing the number of makegoods needed.  In addition, Orion also provides NBCU with the ability to change commercial schedules on the day of air and seamlessly update schedules in Automation.

“We have often stated that Orion’s flexibility is a great benefit to our clients, and given the uniqueness of the Olympics business model that holds true in this case as well,” said Mary Blair, Vice President, Business Systems Division, VCI Solutions.  “We are happy to be providing NBCU with not only a product, but a partnership for the August Olympics.”
