NBC Universal announced affiliate and community affairs extensions to USA Network’s “Character Project” campaign, an ongoing artistic initiative committed to capturing the character of America and inspired by USA’s iconic "Characters Welcome" brand. Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications will partner with USA Network for a seven-city touring photo exhibition, co-hosted by Vanity Fair.

The affiliate community affairs program consists of a local photography contest, school field trips and companion curriculum in each local market, including a kick off event in New York on 3/12, followed by stops in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco and LA. With the support of the not-for-profit photography organization Aperture Foundation, USA Network assembled a team of 11 world-class photographers to celebrate the characters that make America extraordinary. The artists’ work will be promoted via a multimedia campaign including a hard cover photography book entitled American Character: A Photographic Journey.

"This initiative explores and celebrates the changing faces of America," said Brian Hunt, SVP/Marketing & Sales Strategy, TV Networks Distribution, NBC Universal. "By partnering with our affiliates to bring this artistic initiative to local communities, high school students will have the opportunity to explore the meaning of the word ‘character’ in a unique way that we hope will have a lasting impact on their education."

USA will bring the Character Project touring exhibition to each of the following venues for three days, kicking off with a reception for affiliate partners on day one and opening it to the public on days two and three:

New York – March 12-14 at Stephan Weiss Gallery
Washington D.C.- April 2-4 at Edison Place Gallery (Pepco)
