Ben Nelson (D-NE) is one of the moderate Democrats in the Senate – some would even say he’s the most conservative Democrat – and he’s now a target of a media blitz in Nebraska reminding him to weigh tax issues carefully back in Washington as he considers health care reform.
The flight is coming from Americans for Tax Reform, who believe that passage of a health care package will violate Nelson’s oath to protect taxpayers. ATR is using local and national news and commentary programming on three separate broadcast networks to reach citizens of the state, along with internet support, and will keep the ads on the air for a period of three weeks.
The organization wants to remind Nelson that simply voting against health care will not be enough. He as to vote against cloture – that is, support a filibuster – to see that health care is not passed.
